SiN Reloaded Secrets and Branching
Pulse rifle parts, ATM hacks, POI markers, Episode 5 linearization, and fail-forward mission paths.
SiN was never a straight corridor shooter. Maps hide caches, ATMs spit cash, DOS terminals rewrite security, and timers decide whether you see the missile silo. Reloaded keeps that structure and then helps: POI marks sit on keys that used to look like office clutter, Episode 5 backtracks less, and Silo and Chem were overhauled. This page is the systems guide. The beat-by-beat route is the Walkthrough. Reloaded’s art pass moved props, so if a 1998 FAQ says “shoot the third crate,” look for the new POI ping first.
POI markers and keys that used to vanish
Grover Wimberly IV told Nintendo Everything that Freeport City Bank was the example: is that key part of the desk, or do you have to pick it up? Reloaded puts exclamation marks / points of interest on those objects. When you are stuck, stop spraying walls and scan furniture, security booths, and corpses for the ping. Use still interacts. The marker only tells you the prop matters.
That change does not delete exploration. Secret vents, breakable panels, and off-path armor still exist. It does mean the campaign-critical key is less likely to end a run because it sat on a textured table. If a door stays locked after a ping, you used the wrong terminal or you are on a fail-forward variant that closed that door on purpose.
Pulse rifle parts
The pulse rifle (Pulse Gun) is the semi-secret gun you assemble from parts. Classic SiN gives two sets: first half and second half. Assemble it early and the later parts disappear. Miss the early set and the late set is your second chance — you may not hold the finished rifle until the finale run-up.
Reloaded’s Pulse Gun lightning chains between enemies. That is a Nightdive buff. Chain lightning clears clustered mutants without dumping the chaingun; plasma mode still exists for single targets. Hunt parts in Chem, warehouse, and later labs along the Walkthrough. Vents behind office glass and fuse boxes in fan shafts often sit next to a part. Magnum the vents you cannot Use.
ATMs, cash, and DOS terminals
Freeport still has ATMs. Use them. If one sits behind a shutter, the terminal is in the same wing. Hacking is not a skill tree. You Use a DOS box, pick the option JC is yelling about, and the map changes: alarms off, vault code, silo doors, underwater pumps. Wrong menu options can start a countdown. Read the prompt. Reloaded restored unused dialogue, so extra barks can mean a terminal has a second page.
Fail-forward paths and the silo timer
SiN almost never hard-locks the campaign because you played badly. It reroutes you.
- Helicopter over the bank: lose the bird, enter from the street.
- Missile silo: hit the optional objectives and the countdown and you play the overhauled Silo. Miss it and you fail-forward into sewers with a different briefing.
- Area 57 / biomass: smash geothermal pistons earlier if you want the reclamation side map. Skip them and you skip the extra, not the ending.
- Stealth Chem: get spotted and the map becomes a louder, meaner version of itself instead of a game over.
Quicksave before a timer. Do not restart the whole episode because you missed a secondary. Reloaded’s Silo overhaul makes the good path less miserable — chase it because the map is better, not because the campaign will refuse to end. The Steam demo includes silo-style content without the full branch table.
Episode 5 linearization
Gold players remember the oil rig, underwater pass, hidden docks, and geothermal plant as a commute. Nightdive said Episode 5 in particular had a lot of backtracking and that Reloaded’s layout is more linear and straight-focused. You still swim. You still want the speargun (Reloaded made it better underwater). You still flip pumps. You should need fewer “walk back two maps for a valve” moments. If you are looping a catwalk, look for a new decoration, a POI ping, or a door that Gold never had.
Underwater secrets are air-pocket routes, silver tanks you can shoot for secondary objectives, and speargun-only cracks. Surface secrets are still vents, breakable glass, and behind-waterfall caches. Vehicles (forklift, patrol boat, ATV, helicopter) sometimes are the secret: Use a forklift to reach a crate you cannot jump.
How to hunt without a 1998 FAQ
Play a map once for the objective, a second time for the walls. Shoot suspicious panels. Crouch into lit vents. Use corpses for ammo and keycards. Restored barks are often breadcrumbs. If a new texture hides a button, swap remastered versus SiN Gold in settings.
Gunplay while you explore: Combat Guide. First hour: Getting Started. Binds: Controls. Wages of SiN has its own caches, day/night variants, and a crossbow detonator — that is Wages of SiN. Map-change list: what’s new. Pulse ranks: weapon tier list and loadouts. Index: Guides Hub. Storefronts: Links.
Reloaded wants you to find the key. It will now point at the desk.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What are the new POI markers?
Exclamation marks on interactables that used to blend into furniture, especially keys. Nightdive added them so Bank and similar maps are readable. Use is still the interact bind — see Controls.
How does the pulse rifle assemble?
Collect parts in the first half and/or the second half of the campaign. If you finish the gun early, the later parts disappear. Reloaded's lightning mode chains between enemies.
What happens if I fail the missile timer?
The campaign fail-forwards. You miss the full Silo map and continue (typically toward sewers) instead of getting a game over. Details in the Walkthrough.
Did Episode 5 get shorter?
Nightdive linearized a lot of Episode 5 backtracking from Gold (oil rig, underwater, docks, geothermal). The maps still exist; the commute is shorter.
Do ATMs still matter?
Yes as interactables and exploration bait. Use them when you find them. Terminals that open shutters are usually in the same wing.
Are Wages of SiN secrets on this page?
No. Manero's pack has its own caches, day/night splits, and the crossbow detonator. Use Wages of SiN after the main campaign.
